Scribbles and Quills Limited – A Haven for Book Lovers in Trinidad.
Article by: Shevaughn Racha
Founded by a now attorney-at-law, Radeyah H. Ali while still in law school, Scribbles and Quills (established in 2014), was born out of a deep passion for literacy and the belief that books can transform lives and communities.
Now celebrating 11 years, Scribbles and Quills has grown into more than just an independent bookstore, it has become a cultural hub for readers, writers, and dreamers.
Supporting Local Authors

From the beginning, their mission has been to nurture a love for books while supporting local authors and entrepreneurs.
Beyond carrying a wide range of leading international titles, S&Q as they are more commonly known also host community-based events that foster meaningful connections. Events, whether through poetry socials, sip-and-read sessions, book drives, or collaborations with local creatives, all add further value to their community.
Each event is rooted in their inherent commitment to celebrate words and stories, while giving the community a safe space to gather, share, and grow. Their location in the heart of the island of Trinidad makes it one of the most accessible spots for the entire country.
What sets Scribbles and Quills Apart Is Their Heart…
They are not merely a bookstore, but also a bold movement, dedicated to uplifting local talent, encouraging literacy, and curating experiences that make reading magical.

Every shelf tells a story – not only through international bestsellers but also through the voices of Trinidadian and Caribbean Writers, Artisans, and Small Businesses that we proudly showcase.
When you visit Scribbles and Quills, you don’t just buy a book – you become part of a community that values creativity, culture, and connection. The staff are some of the friendliest that I have ever met in Trinidad, so much so that they give the store an element of family and a sense of belonging.
As part of their goal to support local artisans and entrepreneurs, Scribbles and Quills often host a marketplace, aptly named SQ markets. These markets give many talented local vendors and entrepreneurs a bigger spot-light than they’d traditionally be offered by their own presence.
This drive, dedication and effort really underline Scribbles and Quills’ desire to see local artists succeed.
Coming Up!!!
Looking ahead, the next five years hold exciting possibilities.
We envision Scribbles and Quills expanding into a stronger cultural space, hosting more signature literary events, building deeper partnerships with schools and libraries, and continuing to champion local voices. The ultimate dream is to see Scribbles and Quills as a must-visit landmark in Trinidad. A home for stories, a stage for local talent, and a space where generations can rediscover the joy of reading.
At its heart, Scribbles and Quills is about more than books – it’s about people, passion, and the power of words to bring us together.
